Marie Standeren

For this project our group consisted of me, Yucheng Feng (goes by Feng), and Wenjun Wang (goes by June). Our mission was to come up with four designs for the watersport of our choise. Our group chose surfing as the watersport to design our garments for. We had to do some research on the sport; I learned a lot from my surfing class, and from my interview with my surfing teacher (we discussed his dougther's experiance with the sport since she was the right age group and sex).

Our design process started with the idea generation stage where we focused on our target consumer, the needs, the science of our sport, and inspiration and future trends. The next step was sketching before we came up with our final designs (which could be modified in a later stage) and made technical flat patterns out of them (both digitally and by hand - to use to cut our fabric pieces). We also designed our own pattern, ordered fabric of this design and used it for one of our garments. The last stage was the construction stage where we finalized our flat patterns, cut the fabric pieces, and constructed our prototypes. These, we realized, had to be modified a little to match our design goals. Thus we used the prototypes to edit our flat patterns before making the "final" garments (final prototypes).
